The Jefferson Ice House - click for detail gallery

Jefferson Ice House

The Jefferson Ice Company

Ice Distributors like the Jefferson Ice Co. were a common, even iconic sight found in most moderate sized towns. From the 30's through the early 60's, they supplied ice in blocks and cubes to industries and homes until ice became a do-it-yourself activity. The Jefferson Ice Company still exists, but this Icehouse has been shuttered for some time. We were fortunate to find it still standing in Des Plaines, IL. This kit is an exact duplicate, photographically researched and computer modeled. It is a challenging and beautiful model when carefully built.

The Furniture Factory - click for detail gallery

Furniture Factory

The Furniture Factory

This wood frame factory building is based on a photograph of the J.L. Simon Furniture factory and is typical of many back woods industries found all over West Virginia and Pennsylvania. It is made from a very distressed, red painted clapboard and a tar paper roof. We were drawn to the unusually low side wings and its "home made" look.

Plant #2 - Click for details

Plant #2

Plant #2

Plant #2 represents a typical urban trackside industry. It has 40' of rail side loading dock; a truck bay and a cinderblock garage attached to its side. While there is no prototype, it is the result of research from several small, late 40's industries located in Evanston IL.
Its also a challenging and fun kit.

The Brick Warehouse - click for a larger version

The Brick Warehouse

The Warehouse

Would be a great companion kit to "plant #2". A flat roofed 5-story brick warehouse with two truck bays and 2 rail side loading doors under a sheet metal roof. Great by itself or combined with others to create a warehouse district. It can be easily modified and combined with other kits to create taller and shorter structures as well as dimensional flats.

Garage-Click for details

Garage
2 roofs, 2 dormers, side shed

The Garage

Is a brick, two bay structure that was found while touring the alleys of Chicago's Rogers Park neighborhood. What caught our eye was the slightly larger size and the loft above the garage doors. Buildings like this were common to urban neighborhoods which often had (and still have) small industries running "out back".
This would make a great auto shop, welding shop, out building or even a garage. It comes with two different roofs, several types of doors and a small shed. This is a fun and easy kit.

Steel Utility Shed - Actual kit has no writing on the siding!

Steel Utility Shed

Steel Utility Shed

This steel walled shed can be found in every rail yard. It works well added to any industry or standing all alone. You can combine it with our steel factory building or Quonset hut. It's one of the most flexible kits we make. Though it's not intended to have windows we include some in the kit for you to place as you wish. The same is true for the garage doors and shed. You decide where or if you want to use them.

2 Steel Shed buildings included - 1 with windows.

Where would we be without the Steel Shed?

The popular Frame Garage

Frame Garage

The Frame storage building

The same footprint as the garage, but made of yellow/tan clapboard. This one is also good as a small outbuilding. It is a simple and inexpensive starter kit, and will look great anywhere on your railroad.

Forge ahead

Small Forge
The Small Forge

This small industrial building is a compilation of several small factories. It could be a small forge, glass blowing plant or heavy machine repair shop.
It features a large rooftop window bay, A sheet metal roof, vents and blowers. There is a tall freight door on one side. The roof bay can be shortened or left off all-together; so combining multiples of this kit to create a big industry is a natural. This model is a great partner to our steel sided building and Quonset hut.

Unique Gatemen's Tower

Gatemens Tower

Gatemens Tower

"The 2nd & Commerce Gatemens Tower" is based on a prototype on the Milwaukee road in Milwaukee Wisconsin. This 1920's vintage gate house was in operation well into the 70's. I know of other octagonal gate houses in other locations and,in fact, saw one here in a Chicago rail yard. In O scale this kit has a footprint of barely 2", however the stair case extends another 3" further out. The building experience was a real pleasure. It's a challenging kit that demands careful attention but,as you can see, makes a striking building.

Insulbrick Garage

Insulbrick Garage

The Insulbrick Garage

The same footprint as the garage but made of very distressed sheets of Insulbrick with a brick pattern. The Insulbrick garage is another great small outbuilding. This garage is another example of a basic, inexpensive starter kit that will look great anywhere on your railroad.
